I Custodi, 'Pistus' Etna Rosso 2017

We're starting with a wine from Sicily that we believe is a perfect reflection of "the times” when it comes to wine. What does that mean? Well, we all know that natural wine is very popular right now. This is a natural wine. It's also made by old school winemakers (I Vigneri) who farm in a very old school way - by hand. That's exactly the kind of story we all love to tell when we introduce a wine to a friend. It’s a great value for the price. And it’s a wine that you can bet will please pretty much anyone.

This wine is an Etna Rosso, which is a term for a red wine made mostly of the Nerello Mascalese grape, grown in the Mt. Etna area of Sicily. Mt. Etna is an active volcano - the biggest active volcano in Europe, actually, which is cool and also kind of scary. Because of the volcano, the soil and terrain around here are unique, which makes the wines unique as well.

As for what you'll taste, this wine is fruity and full-bodied, but it's also relatively low acidity so it doesn't feel super boozy or heavy. It's a smooth drinker, which makes it a crowd-pleaser in pretty much any situation. Best of all, it will pass in a room of stuffy wine nerds and hardcore natty wine drinkers alike. It’s a wine with credibility.

When should you drink it?
We think it’s Perfect For: Bringing To A Party Where Someone Might Judge You, Impressing On Date Night, Tuesday Night With Pasta Even Though You Said You Weren’t Going To Drink, Couch Consumption.
