Vietti, 'Perbacco' Nebbiolo delle Langhe 2017

$25
This is an everyday drinking wine from one of Italy's best producers; Vietti is a benchmark winery in Barolo. They of course make fantastic Barolo-- and nebbiolo is the only grape allowed in a bottle—but they also make wines listed just as nebbiolo on the label. When it's listed this way, the wine is likely easier to drink and a bit fruitier compared to the denser and richer style of Barolo, even though they're made from the same grape. Perbacco, the name they've given this bottle, translates loosely to "holy shit." As legend has it, when the wife of the winemaker tried this wine for the first time, she was so surprised by its quality that she shouted "perbacco" in delight, and the name stuck.
