Massican, 'Annia' Napa Valley 2017
California is having a moment again. It’s just a different moment. We think some of the most interesting wines coming out of California right now are white wines not from Chardonnay. A long time ago, a bunch of people started planting different grapes there in hopes of creating the next trend. Most of those people haven’t lived to see the success of those vineyards but back then they were VERY forward thinking. Grapes unique to Italy like Friulano and Ribolla Gialla are being used by some top winemakers. Riesling and Gruner Veltliner are proving to be successful. Chenin Blanc is working out too. Look for something other than Chardonnay from California if you’re trying to be adventurous. We aren't saying they’ll be good but they will be different.
California White Wine should always be: not Chardonnay from Napa Valley.
