Spain is a bit like Italy in its history of red wine. Both countries have only a couple of premier regions that are recognized outside of the country, however, there are actually hundreds of small regions that have their own unique grapes and tradition too. Until recently, no one cared. Spanish wine was lumped into one large category, often just dark, fruity, oaky and cheap. Today, in both the regions you’ve heard of and those you haven’t too, there’s better wine being made than ever. Here are some of our favorites.
