Bordeaux is a region everyone knows but few understand. Although it's an area which has fallen out of fashion, there's a reason it's one of the largest producing and well-known fine wine regions. A series of towns stacked up on both sides of the Gironde river, Bordeaux is broken into a Left Bank, known for Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Right Bank, known for Merlot. The largest concentration of 'First Growth' Châteaus or 'best châteaus' are on the left bank. But if you don't want to sell your firstborn for one of those great Château bottles, there are some great younger producers who are focused on making quality driven wines rather than just chasing Parker points.
