Domaine Chenu Lefebvre, 'Les Lavières' Premier Cru Savigny-lès-Beaune 1990

Recently, we purchased a mix of vintages of both white and red Burgundy– two of the greatest wines in the world, in particular when they have some age. We tried them all and landed on only one of the reds being worthy of your attention. To no surprise, it was the 1990 rather than the '88,'89, and '85. While we recognize that declaring a 1990 Red Burgundy as a great wine is a bit like stating that oxygen is an important element in our lives, it's true that it works.

For those of you wondering what else is going on with this bottle here are the facts:
Savigny-les-Beaune is a village in southern Burgundy. It’s full of smaller producers, and therefore remains relatively unknown. In general, the wines of Savigny-les-Beaune are softer. This bottle is from 1990, one of the great vintages of the century. The producer is a tiny, rustic farm to table type winemaker.

*Opening old wine can be tricky. Many corks are fragile, and if you’re not careful, can break. Just because a cork crumbles doesn't mean the wine’s off. If you're new to buying old wine or curious about the condition, just reach out.

Please note: we aren’t able to take returns of any corked or damaged bottles.
