Sauvignon blanc is one of the most widely planted grapes in the world.
It’s original home is in France’s Loire Valley, which is smack in the middle of the country. The most famous Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc wines come from two areas called Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. You’ve likely seen these names on wine bottles over the years, and you’ve probably drank them at some point, whether you remember it or not. What you should know about them is that they’re always made of Sauvignon Blanc (Sancerre is a place, not a grape, so you can correct someone if they make this mistake, but don’t be a dick about it please) and they’re always tart, citrusy, and crisp. This is a collection of the best producers of Sancerre and other examples of sauvignon blanc from around the world.
