At Clos Rougeard, the Foucault brothers showed the wine world the full potential of the chalky limestone soils of Brézé. This legendary site, rising up in the midst of endless rolling hills of vines in Saumur, yields truly special chenin blanc. With Charly Foulcault’s passing in 2015 and the winery’s subsequent sale, Clos Rougeard’s future is uncertain. Romain Guiberteau’s is not. Romain, a protege of Nady Foucault, makes extraordinary wine from Brézé. Rich and broad yet crystalline and intensely brisk, only chenin from Brezé tastes like this.
