Bartolo Mascarello, Dolcetto d'Alba 2021
$39
Bartolo Mascarello is on the shortlist of the world’s absolute greatest winemakers. The ultimate Barolo traditionalist, his wines were celebrated for their depth, structure, and elegance. His daughter, Maria Teresa Mascarello, has only affirmed that reputation since taking over in the early 2000s. She makes this rich and savory red wine with the local dolcetto grape. Simply put, dolcetto gets no better than this.
Here's what you should know about it:
- Mascarello farms dolcetto on two sites in Barolo - Monrobiolo and Rue.
- Unlike Mascarello’s legendary Barolo, this wine is meant to be enjoyed young.
- This is an earthy wine that’ll warm you up throughout the winter, especially when it’s opened alongside grilled meat or rich pastas.
Things we actually said...
“Bartolo Mascarello is a producer everyone should be familiar with. You can get to know their iconic style through their Barolo, or you can save a few hundred bucks and enjoy this dolcetto instead.”

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
