Chandon de Briailles, Pernand-Vergelesses Blanc Premier Cru 'La Vie Est Belle' 2019

While it’s increasingly common for Burgundy producers to adopt natural winemaking practices, it’s rare for any to stray from the styles on which they’ve built their legendary reputations. Chandon de Briailles is an exception, and today’s wine serves as a resounding proof of concept. Unlike the vast majority of the historic domaine’s bottlings, this one is made with pinot blanc, which spends time in contact with the skins to produce a savory, salty, orange-hued wine.

Here's what you should know about it:
  • This pinot blanc is farmed organically and biodynamically, and then bottled without adding sulfur.
  • The skin contact adds aromatics and texture.
  • This is a food-pairing cheat code. Try it with difficult dishes full of herbs, spices, and powerful sauces.
Things we actually said...

"If Chandon de Briailles is Meryl Streep, then this orange wine is The Devil Wears Prada. It’s a playful break from the norm, and it works brilliantly."

— Matt Tervooren, Parcelle Wine
