Château de Bonnezeaux, Chenin Blanc 'Les Coqueries' 2022
$65
Before Guyonne Saclier de la Bâtie resurrected her family’s Loire winery, Château de Bonnezeaux hadn’t produced a bottle of wine for 30 years. Guyonne, who previously worked with Loire icons Stéphane Bernaudeau and Mark Angeli, replanted her family's vineyards with Angeli’s guidance, and released her first vintage in 2016. Bonnezeaux is now the source of some of the very best chenin blanc in the Loire. ‘Coqueries’ showcases their ripe-fruited, briny, vibrant style perfectly.
Here's what you should know about it:
- Like Stéphane Bernaudeau and Mark Angeli, Château de Bonnezeaux produces chenin blanc in the Anjou region of the Loire Valley.
- This chenin comes from the Coqueries vineyard. It’s concentrated and richly fruited yet bright and intensely salty.
- The only other person who makes wine from Les Coqueries is Bernaudeau, whose bottling costs 4x as much.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
