Domaine Vacheron, Sancerre 'Les Garennes' 2022
$105
Vacheron is on a very short list of the greatest producers in Sancerre. The family-run estate makes a range of white wines from sauvignon blanc, each showcasing a prized vineyard in this part of the Loire. Les Garennes is as rare as any wine in their lineup. The small, organic site yields a deep, powerful expression of sauvignon blanc. As with all Sancerre from Vacheron, though, it’s still salty, crisp, and an ideal summer white.
Here's what you should know about it:
- Cousins Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent Vacheron make this white wine with sauvignon blanc from a single, biodynamic vineyard in Sancerre.
- It’s more intense and layered than most Sancerre, but still smoky, citrusy, and fresh.
- From the Loire or anywhere else, sauvignon blanc doesn’t get much better than this.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
