Giacomo Conterno, Barbera d'Alba 'Francia' 2023
$95
Barbera doesn’t get better than this. Not only is it made by one of the world’s greatest red winemakers, but it comes from a vineyard that yields the most collectible wines in all of Italy.
While barbera is generally regarded as a solid pizza wine, this is a more serious proposition. Extended aging, a legendary vineyard, and Roberto Conterno’s classic winemaking yield a fresh, earthy red with structure and depth typically reserved for the region’s best nebbiolo.
Here's what you should know about it:
- Roberto Conterno is one of the greatest producers in Piedmont, and his ‘Monfortino’ is Barolo’s greatest wine.
- Like ‘Monfortino’, this barbara comes from the ‘Francia’ vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba.
- One bottle of ‘Monfortino’ costs as much as a case of this barbera.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
