Parcelle Picks
J.B. Becker, Riesling 2-Pack
$90
This is a cool one. J.B. Becker’s wines are among the most talked about in Germany, and bottles like these show why. Both of these dry rieslings recently arrived straight from Hans Josef Becker’s cellar in the Rheingau. A decade or so of age has amplified the smoky, briny, earthy notes that define Becker’s style. The 2017 and the old-vine 2015 - both from Becker’s greatest vineyard - are now ready to go. These deliver a wild amount of nuance and quality for the price.
This bundle includes:
J.B. Becker Riesling Walkenberg Spätlese Trocken 2017
J.B. Becker Riesling Walkenberg Spätlese Trocken Alte Reben 2015
Here's what you should know about it:
- In the Rheingau, Becker is an outlier. Farming organically, aging extensively in barrel, crafting a chiseled and smoky style of riesling - it all sets Hans Josef Becker apart. As does his world-class mustache.
- These are both dry rieslings from Becker’s best vineyard.
- The 2017 is lean and aromatic compared to the deep, concentrated old vine (‘alte reben’) bottling from the all-time great 2015 vintage.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
