Marco Tinessa, Ognostro Bianco 2021

After a stint on a trading desk in Milan, Marco Tinessa began making tiny amounts of wine in his hometown in Campania. With guidance from Italian natural wine icon, Frank Cornelissen, Marco zero’d in on two grapes, aglianico for a red, and fiano for a white. Back at his garage winery in Milan, Marco leaves the fiano juice in contact with its skins for a brief period, yielding one of our favorite orange wines… anywhere. While orange wines come in countless shades and styles, Marco’s is light, almost golden, and tastes more like herbs and sea salt than Tang or kombucha.

Here's what you should know about it:
  • Marco makes this orange wine using the local white grape, fiano, which he farms organically in the Campanian village of Taurasi.
  • Skin contact only lasts for two days, resulting in a wine that’s bright, savory, and fresh.
  • Only a few hundred bottles are made each year.
Things we actually said...

“Marco is someone who just loves wine – really damn good wine. Turns out, he makes really damn good wine, too.”
