Paul Jaboulet Aîné, Hermitage 'La Chapelle' 1983
$250
Today, when we think of Hermitage, we think of Chave. But up until the early ‘90s, Chave had one peer on this legendary hill in the Northern Rhone: La Chapelle from Jaboulet. From an era when Jaboulet was at the peak of its powers, this is old-school Rhone syrah at its savory, long-lived best. A mature classic, available here at the best price in NY.
Label condition may vary. Please email contactus@parcellewine.com if you have any questions.
Here's what you should know about it:
- This is 100% syrah from Hermitage in the Northern Rhone.
- Jaboulet La Chapelle was a post-war benchmark wine for Hermitage. After 1991, they changed their style, and the wines lost their previous thrill factor.
- As with Chave, La Chapelle releases from the ‘80s are drinking phenomenally right now. That goes for this savory, meaty, smoky release from 1983.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
