Roagna, Barolo 'Pira' 2016 (Pre-Sale Arriving 9/21)
$210
Roagna is one of Piedmont’s all-time greats. Over the last decade or so, Luca Roagna’s wines have hit a new level. They’re prettier and more approachable, yet still deliver the intensity and depth that are hallmarks of his family’s nebbiolo. That’s all on full display in this Barolo from the near-perfect 2016 vintage.
Here's what you should know about it:
- Luca Roagna, the family’s 5th generation at the helm, has run this iconic Piemontese winery since the early ‘00s.
- 2016 is an outstanding vintage for Barolo, arguably the best of the 21st century.
- The Pira vineyard in Castiglione Falletto is owned entirely by Roagna. The vibrant, earthy, floral 2016 is delicious now, but will continue to age seamlessly as well.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
