Sassicaia, 2023

$325
$275

Sassicaia stands apart from other collectible Super Tuscans. Compared to its more opulent peers, Sassicaia is elegant and fine-tuned, with freshness and an unparalleled track record for aging. Very few vintages put all of that on display as clearly as 2023.

Vibrant, spicy, and perfumed, the 2023 is more polished than most young Sassicaias. It’s unusually expressive out of the gates, but it has the structure to age seamlessly for decades as well. A complete wine from a difficult growing season proves yet again that Sassicaia is still at the top of its game today.

Here's what you should know about it:
  • While ‘Super Tuscan’ has no legal definition, it all started when Marchese Nicolo Incisa della Rochetta planted cabernet on his horse farm on the sleepy Bolgheri Coast.
  • Made primarily from cabernet sauvignon, along with a bit of cabernet franc, Sassicaia debuted with the 1968 vintage, and forever altered the landscape of Tuscan wine.
  • The 2023 is a relatively lithe, elegant, lifted Sassicaia. It can certainly age, but it’s delicious today, with classic notes like salty dark fruits, mint, spices, and lavender.
