In late-’60s France, leaving a very successful business in Paris to buy a run-down winery in Burgundy didn’t have the romantic allure it does now. That didn’t stop Jacques Seysses. And with his phenomenal second vintage in ‘69, it was clear he made a very good decision. Whole clusters and plenty of oak met picking early and pale, silky finesse. His son, Jeremy, took the helm here in Morey-Saint-Denis in the late ‘90s, and the wines have reached the most rarified air of collectible Burgundy.
