Denis Bachelet, Côtes de Nuits-Villages 2016

$131
There’s a common journey amongst wine collectors that we’ve seen which starts with lots of excitement around Napa Valley cabernet and ends with being a highly selective buyer of Red Burgundy. To attach brands to it, it starts by drinking a glass of Opus at a closing dinner and now you prefer Dujac over Ponsot from the 1980s. To attach people to it, you started off by buying wine from Gary Vee and now you’re shopping with us. We think you’re on the right path.

If you’ve already arrived at Denis Bachelet’s wines, you’ve become an elite consumer of all beverages. If you haven’t, welcome to old-school Burgundy! These aren’t for the faint of heart or those just looking to have a smooth glass of pinot, and that’s ok if this isn’t your style. This is Red Burgundy that is earthy, a bit tart, and definitely rustic. Most of his wines need an abundance of time to enjoy. This bottling which is from a satellite zone of the more acclaimed Gevrey Chambertin is more approachable when young. The wine is distinctly smokey, more savory and herbal than jammy and sweet.
