Domaine de l'Iserand, 'Lou Taïssou' Saint-Joseph 2019

Imagine owning a sports bar, and then one day, the Knicks ask you to suit up for their game at MSG. It sounds ridiculous, but it’s not too far off what happened to Jean-François Malsert. After owning a wine bar that overlooked the infamous slopes of Tain l’Hermitage, his grandfather gave him a small plot of syrah vines nearby in Saint-Joseph. Rather than squander his shot (like every player on the Knicks), Jean-François created Domaine de l'Iserand in 2011, and never looked back. The Lou Taïssou is a dense, meaty wine that’ll make you wonder if there’s a giant fire pit in the middle of the vineyard. There isn’t. There’s just organically grown grapes used to make natural wine that’s a great representation of Northern Rhone syrah.

Tastes like: Blackberry, smoke, black pepper, and roasted meat.

How to drink: Decant it for an hour. Drink with lamb, roasted potatoes, or any sort of roasted thing.
