Jean-Baptiste Souillard, Cornas 'Saint-Pierre' 2020
Syrah from the region of Cornas in the Northern Rhone is often rustic and unapproachable for years after bottling. Cornas from Jean-Baptiste Souillard doesn’t fit that mold. Jean-Baptiste trained alongside Benjamin Leroux at Comte Armand in Burgundy, and he brought those sensibilities to the Rhone, opting for a style focused on elegance rather than raw power. The ‘Saint-Pierre’ is his most powerful and savory bottling, but it’s still floral and fresh.
