Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas 2013

If we were only allowed to collect only 10 wines for the rest of our lives, this one would make the list. Clape is the premier producer in Cornas, a region in France where syrah is the only permissible grape. It’s a wine that can age for a century, but goes down well when it’s young too. It’s a sommelier favorite—and sommeliers are as picky as anyone should ever be about wine.

Here's what you should know about it:
  • This wine tastes like bacon, olives, and lavender.
  • It’s a big wine, but not an oaky wine.
  • Open for two hours before enjoying.
  • Clape is an all-organic producer.
  • If you hang onto this wine, it will increase in value. We promise.
Things we actually said...

“This wine is so seductive, it’s hard to stay off of it.”

“An exceptional effort.”

“96 points.”
