Domaine Didier Fornerol, Côte de Nuits-Villages 2018

In Burgundy, the quality of a wine and the prestige of the vineyard it comes from tend to be closely linked. Those 13th century monks knew what they were doing. There are outliers, however, and chief among them are the wines of Didier Fornerol. 

Fornerol feels like insider’s Burgundy. None of his bottlings carry glitzy classifications, but all of them provide a pristine window into savory, old-school Burgundy. That very much goes for today’s red. It’s spicy and deeply textured, a collectible wine that you can and should enjoy as often as possible.
