Diego Losada is helping to redefine the rugged, mountainous wine region of Bierzo in northwestern Spain. For the last 10 years, he has been naturally farming local grape varieties on a series of isolated vineyards, keeping yields to a fraction of what is common in the area. The result is pristine fruit and ultra-expressive wines. This red wine, made primarily from mencia, is bright and easy-drinking, showcasing the grape’s classic smoky, peppery profile.
Tastes like: Red cherry, white pepper, nutmeg, smoke.
How to drink: Lightly chilled with tacos al pastor, mushroom risotto, or a cheeseburger.
