Pira Francesco & Figlio, Barbera d'Alba 1989

$70
Barbera an easy-drinking red wine from Piedmont that we often suggest guzzling alongside pizza. But the 1989 vintage is one of the all-time greats in Piedmont, and even humble wines like this one reflect greatness. This wine might have been meant to enjoy young, but like a good pair of Levi's, it has proven itself surprisingly timeless and durable. It is dark-fruited and savory, but a bit softer than Barolo. And it will still go great with pizza, just try to make it a fancier pizza—ideally one with mushrooms on it.
