Bruno Giacosa was making wine before any of us could legally drink it– he joined the family business at the age of 15. In the years that followed he built an unrivaled knowledge of Barolo and Barabesco’s many ‘crus’, exploring the promise of single vineyard bottlings before anyone. His wines from 1978, 1982, 1985, 1988, 1989 and 1990 stand among the greatest ever made, and they’re all remarkable– he refuses to release wine if it isn't. His white label ‘normale’ bottles are one of fine wine’s great values and the best introduction to the deep, textural Giacosa style; the red label riservas – made only in the best years – are at least the equal of any red wine in the world.
