Cappellano, Barolo 'Chinato'

Cappellano belongs in Barolo’s most rarefied air. Like Bartolo Mascarello, Baldo Cappellano was a legendary figure who both represented the old-school and brought the region to new heights. And like at Mascarello, the wines have only gotten better since the new generation took the helm in the early 2000s. A new, very limited batch of Augusto Cappellano’s wines arrive in a couple weeks.

The Cappellano family invented Chinato. They blend their Barolo with a range of botanicals and spices, producing a perfect after-dinner drink that's like a lower-alcohol, more elegant alternative to amaro.
