Catalina Ugarte, País Chile 2019
Chile is known for making wines from French grapes. They are also known for making some (respectfully) pretty bad wine from those grapes too. We found a wine that’s not only a great wine by Chilean standards, but a great wine by all standards, and then we bought a lot of it. Actually, all of it, really.
The grape is called País. A grape that’s primarily used for bulk rosé— the type that came in a bag you used to slap. Catalina Ugarte, the winemaker, found some very old vines of País and decided to make something legitimate. The result is a delicate red that tastes like sage, fruit leather, and rosewater. We think you should try it, so we put it on sale.
