Cerbaiona, Rosso di Montalcino 2015

$65
Cerbaiona is a wine that if we see in your cellar or on your counter, you’ve immediately earned our respect. It’s a winery whose story and founders would be quickly inducted into the Wine Hall of Fame, if such a place were to exist. No sales pitch can go without mention of its founders Diego and Nora, who tended the vineyards like their garden until they sold it after the 2015 vintage. While their Brunello can age 30+ years, and in some vintages fetch over $500 a bottle, they also have always made a Rosso di Montalcino with the same attention, but designed to be lighter and ready to drink young. It’s a little tart, a little earthy, and never oaky. Although it’s a bit weird to shut your eyes, trust us: take a sip and envision you are in the hot hills of Montalcino. It’s a bit like when you put the conch shell to your ear and hear the sea– it can make even the most experienced wine drinkers appreciate an earnest wine from a beautiful place and wonderful people. It’s a nearly perfect glass of wine.
