Stella di Campalto, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2012 Magnum

$390

Brunello has become a brand with such great notoriety that there are now porn stars, rockstars, and famous shoe designers who make it. Unfortunately, there is a lot more bad Brunello in the world than the good stuff. We think that Brunello is best when it is a wine which is elegant and refreshing rather than a big and dark wine. The American market, in particular, became so infatuated with the stuff that at some point, the wines started to taste more like California Cabernet than something grown in Tuscany. Thankfully, there are a handful of producers left making the “old-school” stuff which we really love.

A Brunello should always be: at least 4 years older than the current year, not have a label that looks like it was in an Armani campaign and enjoyed with a giant steak.
