When it comes to ‘traditionalist’ Barolo producers, the oft-repeated names are Giacomo Conterno, Bartolo Mascarello, and Giuseppe Rinaldi. Slightly less well known, but just as deserving of plaudits is Brovia. Their structured, powerful, single-vineyard wines come from many of the best sites in Piedmont.
This old-vine Barolo is elegant and aromatic rather than big and brooding. Its signature earthy, minerally character keeps it focused, even in warm vintages.
