Fattoria San Lorenzo, Bianco 2004

Verdicchio is a wine that got a bad rap in the 1980s because it was watery and came in bottles shaped like fish.Thankfully the packaging didn't outlast the decade—and the taste of the wines has improved dramatically too. In general, verdicchio is crisp and lemony, never oaky, and best enjoyed young. But this wine has spent considerable time aging in wood and is therefore more textured and savory, though still bright with acidity. Made only in the best vintages, it's one of the great white wines of Italy.
