Gruner veltliner is Austria’s most common grape, and it runs the stylistic gamut from light and easy to dense and opulent. Our favorite versions, however, are somewhere in between. Lithe and pure yet intensely mineral and full of energy. Barbara Öhlzelt epitomizes this take on the grape. Old vines and barrel aging yield a gruner with texture and depth over a lightweight frame.
Tastes like: Ripe pear, white pepper, chives, salt.
How to drink: Cold with sushi, grilled fish, or roasted veggies.
