Guímaro is making some of the most exciting red wines in Spain today. The traditionalist producer farms old vines of local grape varieties, which grow on dramatically steep vineyards in Ribeira Sacra in northwestern Spain. The high altitude and cool nights allow the grapes to retain a ton of freshness, yielding peppery, savory red wines.
This comes from the winery’s original vineyard plot, an old-vine parcel of mencia that has been in the family for generations. It’s a rich, peppery wine that’d pair perfectly with steak or braised meats.
