Les Terres de Philéandre (David Duband), Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru 'Aux Serpentieres' 2019
Like countless elite names in Burgundy - Lafon, de Montille, Leflaive, etc - David Duband launched a side project in order to make wines from new areas of Burgundy at more approachable price-points. So nearly 20 years after taking over his family winery, he started Les Terres de Phileandre - named after his twins, Philomène and Léandre - in 2018.
This is the first time we’ve been able to offer a wine from his new label. Fittingly, it comes from the very first vineyard he selected for the project. As with all of his Red Burgundy, including his 6 grand crus, he uses whole-clusters and minimizes oak in order to produce a wine that’s peppery, aromatic, and fresh.
- For the last quarter-century, David Duband has made collectible Red Burgundy from his organic vineyards in the Côte de Nuits.
- While those wines can sell for $600+, his reds at Les Terres de Phileandre offer a snapshot of his elegant style at a fraction of the price.
- 2019 was a warm vintage, which softened this premier cru’s classically firm edges, and produced a silky, savory red wine.

Call it a hit list, a daily deal, or whatever you like. It’s the best stuff we have right now—and at the best prices.
