Giacomo Conterno, Barbera 'Francia' 2020

$100
$80

Barbera doesn’t get any better than this. Not only is it made by one of the world’s greatest red winemakers, but it comes from a vineyard that yields the most collectible (and expensive) wines in all of Italy.

While most barbera is bright, floral, and best consumed upon release, this is a more serious proposition. Thanks to extended barrel aging, a legendary vineyard, and Roberto Conterno’s traditionalist winemaking, this barbera has richness, structure, and deep earthiness rarely found outside of the region’s top Barolos.

Here's what you should know about it:
  • Roberto Conterno is the greatest producer in Barolo, and his ‘Monfortino’ is Barolo’s greatest wine.
  • Like this barbera, ‘Monfortino’ comes from the ‘Francia’ vineyard.
  • One bottle of ‘Monfortino’ costs as much as a case of this barbera.
Things we actually said...
“Most barbera is good pizza wine and not much else. Conterno’s Barbera is great pizza wine and so much else.”
— Christine Collado, Parcelle Wine
