COS, Cerasuolo di Vittoria delle Bastonaca 2019

COS changed the game for Sicilian wine. Launched by Giusto Occhipinti (uncle to Arianna), COS adopted organic farming from the outset, biodynamics after that, and have only ever worked with native grapes. 40+ years later, COS remains a benchmark natural producer not just for Sicily, but for Italy as a whole.

Today’s single-vineyard bottling is as structured, expressive, and rare as any red COS produces. It has the brightness of Beaujolais with the structure and savory intensity of Rhône syrah. Sicilian reds don’t get better than this.

Here's what you should know about it:
  • COS is Sicily’s O.G. natural winery, and one of the most influential in all of Italy.
  • Cerasuolo di Vittoria denotes a blend of two native Sicilian grapes, frappato and nero d’avola. For this wine, they come entirely from the Bastonaca vineyard.
  • This is COS’ most structured red wine, but it’s still bright enough to enjoy lightly chilled.
Things we actually said...

“COS’ wines are simultaneously serious and easy-drinking. It’s a very appealing combo.”
