Domaine Denis Mortet, Gevrey-Chambertin 'Mes Cinq Terroirs' 2018
$115
Denis Mortet achieved star status in Burgundy in the ‘90s. With the legendary Henri Jayer as his longtime mentor, Denis made Red Burgundy that was lush and powerful. Since taking over, Denis’ son, Arnaud, has evolved the winemaking towards more elegance and detail. The wines, which never lost the Mortet intensity and ultra-expressive fruit, have never been better.
‘Mes Cinq Terroirs’ is the Mortet flagship. It’s a classic picture of the deep, earthy character of Gevrey-Chambertin, as well as an illustration of Arnaud’s silky, refined style. This is collectible Red Burgundy through and through.
Here's what you should know about it:
- This Red Burgundy comes from Mortet’s home village of Gevrey-Chambertin.
- Mortet is famous for pristine, organic, low-yield vineyards, which produce richly concentrated wines.
- This wine is a perfect representation of a blue-chip Burgundy producer, and it’s available for less than 1/10th the price of some of Mortet’s other wines.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
