Pierre Girardin, Bourgogne Blanc 'Eclat de Calcaire' 2022
$65
Pierre-Vincent Girardin is still in his 20’s. On the flip side of that coin: he’s the 13th generation of his family to make wine, he’s been roaming cellars in Burgundy since the age of five, and he took over only the best vineyard plots from his highly respected father. So, his rapid rise to stardom didn’t come out of left field.
This new release - made primarily with grapes from Pierre’s hometown of Meursault - showcases his crisp, elegant, salty style of White Burgundy. Today, it’s available for about 1/10th the price of some of Pierre’s other white wines.
Here's what you should know about it:
- Pierre is the son of the legendary winemaker, Vincent Girardin. While Vincent sold off most of his land when he retired, he kept a small selection of best sites for his son.
- Pierre produced his first vintage in 2017 at the age of 21.
- He makes this wine with organic grapes primarily from Meursault. The wine is aged in large, old barrels in order to make a wine that’s crisp and salty rather than rich or creamy.

As sommeliers, we often get asked, “What’s the best wine on the list?”
