While nebbiolo’s most famous stomping grounds are Barolo and Barbaresco in Piedmont, the grape also yields top-class red wines next door in Lombardy. For proof, look no further than Nino Negri, one of the region’s greatest producers. The winery has been making nebbiolo (locally called Chiavennasca) from the area’s cool, alpine vineyards for more than a century. Their wine from the high-quality area of Inferno is midweight and spicy, with fresh, lifted floral aromatics.
Tastes like: Black cherry, dried roses, white pepper, clove.
How to drink: Alongside pizza, risotto, or roasted meats.
