Philippe Gilbert, Menetou-Salon Rouge 'Hors Série' Sans Soufre 2021
Philippe Gilbert is the 9th generation of his family to make wine in Menetou-Salon, a village that borders and shares a whole lot in common with Sancerre. Like its more famous neighbor, Menetou-Salon is primarily known for white wines, but its chalky soils yield pinot noir that’s very much worth seeking out as well. This organic, single-vineyard red showcases the lithe, bright, spicy side of pinot from the Loire Valley. Only 300 bottles are exported to the U.S. each year.
Tastes like: Tart red cherry, roses, smoke, black pepper.
How to drink: Lightly chilled with pepper crusted tuna, grilled chicken, or mushroom risotto.
