Azienda Agricola Sofia, Etna Rosso 'La Vigna di Gioacchino' 2021

Mount Etna is a unique place to produce wine. High altitudes, constant Mediterranean winds, a giant (highly active) volcano. Making wine here takes passion, which Carmelo and Valentina Sofia most certainly possess. So much so that - until 2017 - their wines were just for personal consumption. Fortunately, the brother-and-sister duo began offering their organic nerello mascalese more broadly, which brings this fresh, earthy red wine to us now.

Tastes like: Cherry, roses, sea salt, leather.

How to drink: Alongside eggplant parm, smoked meats, or rich red sauce pastas.
