Biondi Santi, Brunello di Montalcino 1987
Biondi-Santi invented Brunello. We don’t mean that in some grand abstract way. We mean it in the sense that in 1865, Clemente Santi discovered a clone of Sangiovese called Brunello. The iconic estate has been making 100% Brunello wines in the hills of Montalcino ever since. Their style has never wavered, producing age-worthy red wines that are lean, aromatic, and pure. These should be on any italophiles list of collectibles, still priced within reach.
