When it comes to ‘traditionalist’ Barolo producers, the oft-repeated names are Giacomo Conterno, Bartolo Mascarello, and Giuseppe Rinaldi. Slightly less well known, but just as deserving of plaudits is Brovia. Their structured, powerful, single-vineyard wines come from many of the best sites in Piedmont.
Brovia makes this bright red from a grape called freisa. While most freisa is light and easy drinking, this version has earthiness and structure that can stand up to lean meats and a range of sides.
