After 35 years at the helm of Vietti, consistently producing some of the greatest wines in Barolo (and all of Italy), Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti left in 2023. To say we’re hyped about their new project, Cascina Penna Currado, would be quite an understatement. This is an artisanal endeavor from one of the most thoughtful and skilled Piemontese winemakers of the modern era. In this inaugural release, Luca’s finessed hand in the cellar is clearly on display, as is the hallmark mineral-intensity of nebbiolo from Monforte d’Alba.
Tastes like: Wild cherry, roses, licorice, leather.
How to drink: Alongside all kinds of braised meats, mushroom risotto, or aged Italian cheeses.
