Castello di Verduno is a historic Piemontese estate that was purchased by the Burlotto family in the early 20th century. While the winery split off over the generations, it remains close to Burlotto in both geography and style. Both are based in the northerly Barolo village of Verduno, and both illustrate the area’s tendency towards light, elegant, perfumed nebbiolo. Mario Andrion, who has run the cellar here since 2000, ages this nebbiolo in stainless steel, yielding a particularly bright, floral red wine.
Tastes like: Wild cherry, roses, red licorice, dried thyme.
How to drink: Alongside cacio e pepe, braised beef ragu with polenta, or a simple charcuterie plate.
