Along with Roberto Conterno’s wines at Nervi-Conterno, Cristiano Garella makes our favorite wines in Alto Piemonte. The cool, high-altitude vineyards here produce fresher, easier-drinking expressions of nebbiolo than you’d find a couple hours south in Barolo and Barbaresco. Only 500 cases of this organic red are made annually.
Tastes like: Wild strawberry, roses, tobacco, leather.
How to drink: Light enough for margherita pizza, rich enough for chicken scarpariello.
