Until 1976, nobody really cared about American wine. But then a handful of Napa cabernets went head to head with legendary chateaux from Bordeaux in a blind tasting, and Napa came out on top. Mayacamas was one of the Napa wineries that competed in what became known as the “Judgment of Paris,” and it remains one of the greatest producers in America today. This wine from their steep, high-elevation vineyard is a classic example of bold Napa cab. With age, it has developed savory, meaty flavors to go along with its still bright fruit.
Tastes like: Blackberry, chocolate, cigar box, leather.
How to drink: Decant it for an hour. This is a perfect wine to drink with steak.
