In the village of Saumur, there’s a hill called Brézé that yields many of the greatest chenin blanc wines in the Loire Valley. Clos Rougeard, Guiberteau, and now, Arnaud Lambert all utilize the hill’s tuffeau soils, a chalky limestone that yields mineral, high-acid wines. In this bottling from Arnaud, those traits perfectly balance chenin’s inherent richness and depth, resulting in a white wine that’s simultaneously bright like Sancerre and rounded like White Burgundy.
